Firebird

This is my most favorite new piece of street art:

I love it like I loved the Two-Headed Pegasus and of course, the Blah Girl. Its on Memorial near Boulevard and I'm hoping that the Wilderness Works people like it as much as I do. Otherwise, the Firebird won't be long for the world.

New Blog for the Blah Girls!

I'm so happy to share that the Blah Girl is all warm and settled in her new home on blogger: Atlanta's Blah Girls! While I've loved having her here, I wanted to give her room to stretch out her cute little arms and get cozy all up on her own site.

Friends of the Girl should check out her new digs and my photo essay: The Story of Blah Girl and My Bottomless Love for Street Art. I really appreciate being visited, linked to and added to your blog rolls.

Blah blah, kisses, hearts, spray paint!

When it Rains, it Pours

And I'm not just talking about this grey Atlanta day. After what seemed like a Blah Girl drought, she's back smiling all around the city. Here she is below the Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts on Shelton Street in Cabbagetown.

1, 2, 3, 4 Blah Girls on the Bathroom Doors

The Blah Girl also drinks at 97 Estoria, as illustrated by 4 different appearances in one little bathroom stall. She starts out all pretty for the evening with flowers in her hair but then as the night goes on hearts fly out of her, she drinks to much and ultimately loses her top and says "grow up" and "eff you" to the rest of the bar.

The Tornado in Cabbagetown

I'm having a hard time making sense of last night's tornado that plowed through downtown and Cabbagetown. Walking and driving around today showed me how extensive the damage is in our neighborhood. These pictures do not do it justice; I took most of them out of a car window. For far better pictures, check out the AJC's Cabbagetown Gallery.

The first place I wanted to check was Oakland Cemetery.

This is taken from the front gate- the Cemetery is totaly closed due to trees being down and debris everywhere.

A closer shot of the many trees blocking the path into the Cemetery.

On Memorial Drive, there is damage everywhere. Where windows didn't explode from the windows, they were shattered by flying debris.

The repairs are beginning in some places. Corkboard and pywood is replacing what used to be windows that were destroyed by the tornado.

Every little street you peek down in Cabbagetown looks like this- trees barricading the road, people trying to make sense of the damage.

This is the same wall pictured in the banner at the top of my blog. Notice the tree pulled up by its roots and the Blah Girl on the emergency call box.

Possum Love?!?

My friend Lori is a crazy person I think. Like Bjork or Amy Sedaris or maybe my sister during long Wisconsin winters.

Lori writes lovingly about her own encounter voluntarily petting a possum on what would have otherwise been a lovely trip to North Georgia.

When I call her out on this sick, sick behavior and point her to my own personal experience with marsupial americans, she posts this picture in response. Not just petting the possum, but hugging it.

I just vomitted a little in my mouth. Sick dude, sick.

And now to change the subject from giant rodents to something far more pleasant for both me and you, my dear readers, here's a brand new Blah Girl shot by the lovely Ela on Wylie Street in Reynoldstown. I can't wait to see her live!

A Blah Girl in Athens

I was so excited to recieve evidence of the existance of a new Blah Girl from my darling friend Red-Handed Jill.

Jill found her in Athens. Makes me think its probably time that I go east to visit Athens and two girls that I love indeed.

New Carnival, New Blah Girl

The 28th Georgia Blog Carnival is up! Go on over to Georgia On My Mind and check it out all the great Georgia bloggers.

My Possum story is listed on it- if you haven't read that yet be sure to check out the comment from "Robert of God", quite possibly the most hilarious comment I've ever gotten on a blog.

And what better way to start the weekend off than a new Blah Girl.

The Earl's Blah Girl

It's been a while since I've posted a new Blah Girl! I'm happy to bring you this one, fresh from a Hawaiian-themed Dunch at The Earl. They decked the place out with pineapples, cocnuts, bamboo; there were tropocal print shirts and leis everywhere. Tag Team played. I saw old friends, Ryan from Berry, lovely rock n' roll Vanessa and even my old coworker Palmer. What a great way to spend Sunday afternoon!

2007 in Photos

Taking a cue from Audacity, here is the 2007 review in photos.

January: The winter sky on the drive from Chicago back to Atlanta. I rode in the backseat and Reem and her BFF Sarah were my chauffeurs for the longest hitchhike in history.

February: Flying into Chicagoland

March: Springtime appears in Atlanta with the dogwoods blooming at Oakland Cemetery during my parents' visit.

April: The very first Blah Girl picture. Driving documentation begins.

May: Rain, wind, 800 cocktails, Irish music, kisses, bliss, 2 am in Savannah.

June: Spiderweb Houseleek on a trip with Dad to the Chicago Botanic Gardens.

June: Eek gets shaved and looks like an old man

July: Jamaican Sunset for Ela's birthday

July: Mica's Metalsome birthday

August: Troy Davis gets a Stay of Execution. We hold a press conference featuring exonorees Gary Drinkard, Darryl Hunt and survivor Jennifer Thomas Canino

September: Dad and I share another birthday party. Note the bite already taken out of the front of the delicious coconut cake.

October: Greatest Halloween party in Atlanta made perfect by the sister and brother plus 4 cousins.

November: Mom, Reem and I go back to Ireland.

December: Steve Bright argues Snyder v. Louisiana in the US Supreme Court. I marvel and choke back tears as he makes friends of Justices Scalia and Alito. One of the most amazing experiences of my life.

December: Christmas at the Hodi's with the Clan

A Blah Girl Weekend

A new Blah Girl, at the corner of Chester and Fulton Terrace in Reynoldstown.

I really love this one, sideways and cheery.

The original Blah Girl -the one featured on my blog banner- was on Boulevard in between the Fulton Cotton Mill lofts and the Oakland Cemetery wall. The first time I saw her I couldn't stop smiling and thanked my lucky stars that I always carry my camera. Sadly, she was painted over a while ago.

I'm happy to share that the original spot once again is ornamented with a new Blah Girl- saw her for the first time today.

Again, I want to send out gratitude to the Blah Girl creator.

THANK YOU for the surprise and joy seeing her always gives me.

Always Auspicious

In addition to being a delight in her green bikini and encircled by floating hearts and an ice cream cone, this time the Blah Girl was a sign of hope and home for another lovely girl.

This one lives at the corner of Pearl and Marcus Streets in Cabbagetown.

This Girl Gets Around

The lovely Blah Girl is making more and more appearances in Atlanta. This one on the left is off of the side of a truck and was taken by my lovely roomie Anne with her cell phone camera. Blah Girl fever is spreading!

This other one smiled back at me from the girl's bathroom at El Myr. Apparently Mademoiselle Blah and I travel in the same circles. But we already knew that, I suppose.

Another New Blah Girl

This one is at the corner of Moreland and Glenwood, heading into East Atlanta Village.

Looks like this one might have been a bit rushed... still love it in contrast with the "Wage" and "Fatso."
